Version 1.9.4 worked without issue, but version 1.9.5 crashes when I launch it.
No disk inserted in drive.
Dump file available.

Do an uninstall. Make sure that the C:\Program Files (x86)\MakeMKV directory is empty except for any custom XML files you have, then do the install again. See if that fixes it.
With the exception of the Win10 antivirus issues, the most common problem with an upgrade failing is that the old version wasn't removed before the new goes in. You can tell MakeMKV to install into a different directory each time to avoid this, but the key is waiting for the uninstall portion to finish BEFORE continuing the install.

I am experiencing exactly the same problem. 1.9.4 worked perfectly. An upgrade install to 1.9.5 crashes on start up (i.e. irrespective of presence of DVD or not). This is with Windows 7 64 bit. I installed on a completely different machine (though also Win 7 / 64 - which was a clean MakeMKV install - and have exactly the same problem.
Would be grateful for any thoughts/suggestions - or possibility of going back to 1.9.4.

Are there any messages about the install in the Windows log? What brand of anti-virus program are you using?

One additional question.... Have you recently visited the Windows Update site, and installed the default "recommended updates"?
Microsoft recently released several "updates" for Win7 and Win8 that are "back ported" from Win10:
3080149 Update for customer experience and diagnostic telemetry
3075249 Update that adds telemetry points to consent.exe in Win7, 8.1
3068708 Update for customer experience and diagnostic telemetry
3022345 Update to enable Diagnostics/Usage Tracking Service in Windows
3021917 Windows 10 Upgrade preparation + telemetry
All of these have triggered concerns over what they report to Microsoft. And all were released about the same time as people started reporting issues with installing MakeMKV on Win7....

I am using Bit Defender. It's Windows 7 Home Premium. I saw that some people are having problems with Bit Defender. I've added:-
makemkv.exe
makemkvcon64.exe
makemkvcon.exe
to the Bit Defender Firewall exclusion list - makes no difference.
Next step is to check what updates have been applied by MS. At least one PC I've clean installed on has been shutdown for days and I don't believe it's had any recent updates.
This is so frustrating. I will try and source logfile information to post here too.

Hi, I am experiencing the same issue.
It was working fine, but when I tried launching it today it is crashing.
I disabled BitDefender and ZoneAlarm and Windows updates have not been installed on this machine recently. I did perform a full uninstall, verified the folder was not left over and reinstalled to a different folder to no avail.

Hello.
I thought I'd give it a try, and it crashes, as described in this post.
I also use "BitDefender"
However, I have found that I can get it working if I disable "Active Threat Control" in "BitDefenter"
Then it works.
(I have also tried adding all of MakeMKV's EXE files as exclusions, but did not address the problem)

I tied disabling Active Threat Control, even stopped the AntiVirus protection and exited Bit Defender to no avail. I ended up uninstalling Bit Defender and MakeMKV is working now. Not too sure what is blocking what but any information anyone can provide would be appreciated.

Just want to say that I am also having the exact same issue with 1.9.5 on a Windows 8.1 machine (I do have the free version of BitDefender installed).
I uninstalled it and reinstalled 1.9.4 and this works perfectly, so will stick with that for now.

i've the same problem, v1.9.5 crash after running it and it happen the same with v1.9.6
When i run it, everything seems ok, windows of MakeMKV appear, but after 2 seconds i got a message "une erreur fatale est survenue, le programme va se fermer"
i'm using windows 7 x64, i'm also using Bitdefender but i see no reason to make v1.9.5 to failed when v1.9.4 work perfectly. So back to v1.9.4
No problem under Linux Mint...
