When ripping a DVD or a file the resultant ripped file may be quite large 3-5 GB.

For purposes of backing up these files to a cloud backup facility this size presents a problem. If service is interrupted for any reason, the whole unfinished backed up file is "thrown away" and backup has to start allover again. It is noticed that for ripped files of size larger than 3 GB the files are effectively never backed up.

Is there a away that the user may select the size of the ripped files and the large ripped file is "broken" so to speak to smaller files "tied" up together?

If there is no such facility, could this be provided in a future upgrade?

You can cut DVDs up into chapters/cells using manual DVD mode.

There's no such functionality for Blu Rays as yet though.

I only use DVDs. I will try what you suggest.

Or you might consider using a tool like handbrake (found at handbrake.fr) to convert the DVD MKV files to a more efficient encoding. It will make the files smaller for transmission and local storage. Depending on what you are encoding, the difference can be 10-70% reduction in size (things like animation compress very well).

I used handbrake as you suggested and it is very successful in reducing video size by mostly 50%-70%.
