Hello,
I'll admit, I'm a makemkv newbie so I could use a little guidance on where I'm going wrong.
I scan the disc
select the 27.3 GB title.
I select the Title, Audio DTS-HD, DTS 5.1, Subtitles& (english-Forced Only), subtitles & English, (forced only) Subtitles & (enslish Forced only) So it looks like 6 subtitle checkboxes are selected - all English - there are no other English to select.
When I stream it back to my Oppo 103 when the dark elves speak, there are no subtitles. I have 3 audio subtitle tracks to select - I've tried all 3 - still no subtitles.
Can you let me know how to get it right? I just had this same issue with Thor 1, Captain America or Avengers (can't remember which).
No subtitles for Thor Darkworld?
Re: No subtitles for Thor Darkworld?
First, you don't need to select both DTS-HD and the (inner) DTS checkboxes. Select one or the other for audio.
For subtitles, the first English subtitle track is "English SDH" - English subtitled for the deaf and hard of hearing. There are no forced subtitles in this track.
The second track is Commentary. There are no forced subtitles in this track.
The third track is the subtitles for the Dark Elvish spoken language. There are no forced subtitles in this track.
That means that to get the subtitles for the "foreign language", you need to select only the first checkbox on the third English track (selecting the inner or sub checkbox won't matter). You also need to set the Forced MKV flag on that track.
If you do that (assuming your Oppo 103 supports PGS subs in MKVs and the forced flag), the subtitles should display.
The reason there are no forced subs is that it is set by Java on the disc.
BTW, this is the same as Avengers (Thor didn't have forced subtitles, and Captain America: TFA had forced subtitles that were marked Forced.)

Re: No subtitles for Thor Darkworld?
Thanks. I'll give that a try - so skip the first two subitles
On the third - select Subtitles English but do not check the indented subtitles English (forced only)?

That's correct, but also set the Forced MKV flag.jimbo1 wrote:Thanks. I'll give that a try - so skip the first two subitles

Re: No subtitles for Thor Darkworld?
Thanks - set the forced MKV flag - where is that? Are you referring to the checkbox next to the sub category of the 3rd English subtitle - so I check both boxes?bw001 wrote:That's correct, but also set the Forced MKV flag.jimbo1 wrote:Thanks. I'll give that a try - so skip the first two subitles

No that sub check box is to extract Forced subtitles into its own track from that subtitle track if there are any marked as forced in that track.jimbo1 wrote:Thanks - set the forced MKV flag - where is that? In other words, if there is an English subtitle track with 1000 subtitles for every spoken line in the movie, that will be included in the MKV if you check the main subtitle check box. If that same subtitle track with 1000 subtitles has 30 subtitles for a foreign language that are marked as forced, checking the sub check box will extract the 30 subtitles into their own track and set the MKV forced flag for that track.
So, you'll end up with an MKV with 2 subtitle tracks, one with all 1000 subtitles for every spoken line (including the 30 forced foreign language lines) and a 2nd one with 30 subtitles with the MKV forced flag. Players that support the MKV forced flag will automatically turn on and display the subtitle track with the 30 foreign language subtitles.
Thor:TDW and Avengers don't have any subtitles marked as forced, there is a separate subtitle track with the foreign language subtitles that are not marked as forced, so we have to set the MKV forced flag ourselves.
To do this, highlight the subtitle track that contains the foreign language within MakeMKV and select MKV Flags in the dropdown to the right under properties and put an 'f' in the text box. You should then see MKV Flags:Forced in the info box below.
Note - you have to have MakeMKV in expert mode to see the properties dropdown.
Re: No subtitles for Thor Darkworld?
Thanks SO much for helping out. I'm either doing something wrong or the Oppo doesn't detect forced audio from my MKVs or mezzmo isn't conveying it.

You can try opening the file directly with VLC, that supports forced flags in MKVs, as does XBMC.
Re: No subtitles for Thor Darkworld?
Thanks! VLC is showing the text.
Does anyone here have an Oppo 103? If so are you seeing forced subtitles? I'll try Twonky to see if is a Mezzmo issue.
