MakeMKV won't open any Blu-Rays

I just installed MakeMKV 1.8.9 on a new Retina MacBook Pro 13” running Mavericks 10.9.2. I’m not able open any Blu-Rays.
When I launch the MakeMKV, the program gives me this error:
It’s a Pioneer BDR-XD04 if that matters.

Does anyone know how I can fix this issue? Any help is greatly appreciated.
When I launch the MakeMKV, the program gives me this error:
If I choose “Open Files” I get this error:MakeMKV v1.8.9 darwin(x86-release) started

My external Blu-Ray drive appears to be working correctly. It works perfectly on an iMac running Mountain Lion. On the MacBook Pro, the drive shows up in the Finder and everything seems great.MakeMKV v1.8.9 darwin(x86-release) started
