MKV file size

I've tried a MakeMKV trial version before and everything worked fine. But with the new latest version the file size comes out smaller then the original .vob files. For instance one .vob file set is 7.4gb but comes out as a 6.9gb mkv file. I can't find any compression settings and reconfiguring the setting doesn't change anything. What am I doing wrong?

There may be overhead in the VOB that isn't copied. I typically see the MKV being slightly smaller, but it can be MUCH smaller if you don't have it selecting ALL audio or subtitle tracks, with no change to the encoding at all.
When you open the disk, click the little triangle next to each title in the left hand menu, and check what tracks within a title are selected. Sometimes, there are multiple audio tracks for a language, and MakeMKV defaults to taking the HIGHEST quality audio for a language, rather than "all tracks". If there is a 2.0 channel commentary track and a 5.1 channel regular audio, the commentary track, by default, will be ignored.
Worst is when there is a 2.0 audio track and a 5.1 commentary track... Guess which one is selected by default?

Thanks for the answer. With everything included the mkv file comes out 200 mb to 400 mb less then the original file.
