how im trying to get a movie onto my sons tablet for a long ride.
it created several files what do I do now?

That's a 2 step tango.
MKV rips the movie at the exact size and resolution than the original source.
Then you have to reduce (encode) and optimize file for tablet use with another app such as HANDBRAKE.
Tip: try to select the main feature only as other files tend to be garbage and usually a waste of time, although sometimes can be tricky to figure which one is but "most" of the time is the (only) with chapters info and the biggest file.
Be warned, ripping can take minutes, while encoding take hours.
