Can MKV setting's be adjusted to make files smaller?

Is it possible to adjust Make MKV setting's to make files smaller, and maintain good quality? All the Blu rays I have ripped so far have been between 21gb-32gb. I like to rip my Blu ray collection to an external Hardrive. I'm only ripping the main video. I want to keep my rips to around 4gb-8gb.

MakeMKV makes no changes to the audio streams (exception: optional recoding of one audio stream type), so the only way it can "shrink" file sizes is to remove tracks you don't want to save, like foreign audio/subtitle tracks you aren't interested in.

Further reductions require other tools that will recode the video... visit handbrake.fr for one such (free) tool.
