Hello -- I have a disk that been scuffed up over the years and now I get an I/O error -- is there a way to skip the i/o errors?

You could try getting the disc polished, otherwise you might be out of luck.

If the scratches are minor, you can often wax the disk to fill them in long enough to do a rip; I personally use Pledge Furniture Polish, because it is water-based and doesn't attack the surface.

If the wax doesn't do it, I move up to using a low-abrasion tooth paste, followed by waxing and a rip attempt.

If that doesn't work, a full polishing like Smithcraft described is in order. Ripping needs to read error-free, at least once.
