First I'd like to say that I love the program. I registered quite some time ago and I've had zero issues with 100's of previous rips.

After upgrading my legit W7 install to a legit W8 install, both DVD and Blu-Ray fail 100% of the time. I have attempted to re-rip disks I'd ripped in the past without issue and those failed as well.

I've entered my key, as well as the current beta key. I've uninstalled via advanced Revo uninstall and re-installed with the same result. I've checked to see if my Lite-On BR drive needed a firmware update and it is up to date.

I am experiencing no other system instability and have watched DVD's from the drive in WMC 8.

Any troubleshooting advice would be greatly appreciated. I am at a loss.

That has nothing to do with Windows 8. That's just a bad disc.

Maybe you skipped some of my post. I wish the disks I've attempted were in poor condition as that would explain it. However, the disks are flawless as when they are brand new their first stop is the HTPC then storage. At this point disk condition can be ruled out. I've tried about 15 different disks with 100% failed.

Ok, let me rephrase then....MakeMKV works perfectly fine for me on Windows 8 as I just got done ripping a movie with it about an hour ago. If you look at the log you posted, you'll see a whole bunch of read errors. It's quite fine if you don't want to take my word for it. You can wait for others to give you a better answer that you like.

I wasn't for a second suggesting that MakeMKV is incompatible with Windows 8. I am asking for help in hopes that another user experienced some similar hiccup after they installed W8. Glad your install and most others installs are working well. I'm looking forward to rejoining those ranks.

Yea, not sure what's going on with your install. Very strange if it's not a bad disc. Does the disc play on that system without problem?

I don't have BluRay playback software on this build but I've confirmed DVD's that played perfectly won't rip with MakeMKV errors logs that look just like this one I posted above.

Try using the full disc rip option and see if that works at all.

Naturally the titles that saved were not the actual movie. This disk plays fine on the system.

There are a couple of other threads on here about problems with Win8. It seems that one or more DLLs that are necessary are not properly registered unless the install is done "just so". In some cases, simply doing the install and running with administrator privileges will fix it.

One of the other threads discussing it is here, and has links to solutions on other forums. It isn't JUST MakeMKV that is having problems with Win8!

Thanks Woodstock, I should have mentioned that I also ran as Admin with no luck. I've also now reverted to an older version of MakeMKV with the same failures. I hate to even ask here, but is there an alternative to MakeMKV that I might use in the meantime?

That's a whacked problem with the w8 installs. Guess I missed that. I just clean installed my main htpc to upgrade to w8 and haven't had any issues with makemkv. Apparently I was lucky! Good info to know though.

Wait I just read what you wrote here more carefully. You say you ran as administrator... But did you run the installer as administrator? That's what Woodstock was alluding to in their post.
