3D Blu-Rays not converting as 3D?

I've been searching around and there are alot of old threads about this but nothing current.

When running MakeMKV on my 3D Blu-Rays I find the track with the the Mpeg4-MVC-3D and I select that file with that stream selected and let makekv
run through it's process, which it completes successfully, I then process that with handbrake and try to feed it to my AppleTV which plays it as 2D.

I've checked the resulting mkv files with mediainfo and they don't seem to indicate that the file is a 3D format.

Am I missing a step here? I've tried several Harry Potter movies, and How to Train Your Dragon but no luck.

Any help is appreciated?

Handbrake does not support 3D.

Hmmm didn't think handbrake cared but even so before I covert them with Handbrake mediainfo does not show the files as 3D.

So far as I know the only software that will play back a full 3D MKV file as created by MakeMKV is PowerDVD, however as I do not have a 3d display, I have never tested it.

I know some of the regular forum members have, I'm sure one of them will comment soon.

If MakeMKV is grabbing the 3D content it should just be streamed through my AppleTV to my Sony 3D TV which should sense the 3D content and display it.

That's a playback issue. It has nothing to do with MakeMKV.

Except according to mediainfo I'm not getting my 3D stream in my file from makemkv even though I checked the box for the 3D stream.

Here's a fun test for you.

Rip the same title twice, once with 3D selected, and once without 3D selected.

Is the one made with 3D selected bigger?

If so, the 3D data is in the file and you can disregard Mediainfo.
