Will Region 1 DVDs rip?

Hello all,
I'm new to this board but not new to MakeMKV. I did a search and couldn't find anything on this, but apologies if I missed it and this has already been answered.
I like in the UK and don't own a multiregion DVD player. Before I import some region 1 DVDs, could someone tell me if MakeMKV can handle ripping them?
Thanks.

99% of the time yes.
Some DVD drives are locked and you just can't bypass it. But I've only ever come across one like this and it was a no-brand drive.
You should be fine.

FWIW, a number of Mac laptops and/or all-in-ones have such drives. If you have a Mac with a Matshushita drive, it's almost guaranteed to be region-locked that way (AFAIK).

You have two options: either an external drive as suggested (I use a Buffalo Blu-Ray drive on my iMac, so I can kill two birds with one stone), or your other option is to reflash your Mac drive. Search for "RPC1 Mac" on Google for help on this, but please note this is at your own risk. Your particular drive may or may not have been hacked yet.
