BD Drive Recommendations

This may be a silly question, but does MakeMKV work with any BD drive?

My current drive has a modified Firmware as the ripping tools I was using at the time needed the drive to not bother with device/host authentication. This drive has now given up the ghost.

DOes anyone have any suggestions for a reasonable internal SATA BD drive?

TIA

Yup, it should work with any drive.

Most people seem to buy the internal LG drives. All my machines are laptops, so I only use external drives myself.

Thanks guys, my old one is LG. I was needlessly concerned that I couldn't find modded firmware for newer ones :)

With MakeMKV fully capable of doing Full Disc Blu-ray backups, I'd ask you why you feel you still need to modify your drive(s)...

I don't now.

Before MakeMKV came along, there were two choices that I was aware of - AnyDVD or a modified firmware. It was accepted and common knowledge that the other software didn't have the correct keys to authenticate to the drive. As I've never used MakeMVK without a modified firmware, I've never put any thought to whether it needed one or not. As I now need a new drive, I realised I had better find out before potentially throwing my money away. Reading through the website and FAQ didn't answer the question one way or the other.

I don't now.
I'm glad to hear that you understand that.

(Presently, there are three major choices for Blu-ray copying: MakeMKV, DVDFab, and AnyDVDHD)
