"Fatal error occurred" with upgrade to 1.7

I took the compulsory upgrade to 1.7.0 (free) today, and straightaway MakeMKV stopped working. It starts examining the disks (of a standard Buffy box set):

Using direct disc access mode
Title #0 was added (15 cells(s), 0:40:52)
Title #1 was added (15 cells(s), 0:40:51)
Title #2 was added (15 cells(s), 0:40:53)
Title #3 was added (15 cells(s), 0:40:53)
Title #4 was added (1 cells(s), 0:00:26)
Subtitle stream #4 is identical to stream #3 and was skipped
Operation successfully completed

BUT THEN I get a popup error dialogue:
"Fatal error occurred, program will now exit."

I can't get any further and I have tried other disks that it has ripped before. I haven't changed the settings and I've never had a problem with MakeMKV before. Whats going on?

Can you try uninstalling and and deleting the ".MakeMKV" folder (check the settings in MakeMKV to see where it is on your machine). The reinstall the software and see if it fixes it.

Tried the above...thx, but it still didn't work, reverted back to 1.6.16 and ran fine.
XP Professional SP3

Did another install on another XP laptop with 1.7 - no problems.

Other reports of the same error. Debug log shows nothing except makemkv exiting.
Identical to these:

As I reported earlier, I've deleted the .makemkv folder, re-installed 1.7 with the same fatal error. Anything else I can try?

Same questions for you as in other topic - Do you get a pop-up window about application crash for makemkvcon.exe ? If not, then if you open a task manager right after the fatal error, do you still see makemkvcon.exe (or makemkvcon64.exe ) running? Also, if you run "makemkvcon info disc:0" from command line, then what happens?

See the screeen shot immediately after the fatal error:

makemkvcon is still running until I click on the "OK" popup

and makemkvcon info disc:0 screen shot:

I get the same popup and task manager results as above. Very random though, no consistency on when it will happen or not.

Same here on Win 7 64 bit. My registered version locks up after "operation successfully completed" and all streams are listed. Now I'm back on 1.6.16 and the same Blurays (previously ripped with DVDfab) open flawlessly. Sucks big time for me cause I wanted to make use of conversion profiles.

I experience exactly the same thing on my version installed on my Windows Home Server 2011. When I try to open the 1.7.1 update, I experience a very long delay of 2-3 minutes where the program does not appear, followed by the error "fatal error occurred, program will now exit" as other people have shown. The strange thing is, the GUI does then show up but with no drives or functionality.

I have used many prior versions with no issue, although I have since tried to roll-back to 1.7.0 and experience the same thing.

Happy to provide anything that can help this be fixed.

Try uninstalling and removing the .makemkv folder from your home directory, rebooting, then reinstalling.

You never know, something might have gotten messed up during the install.

I've tried this, I also tried searching and cleaning out all makemkv references in the registry after uninstalling, then rebooting and reinstalling. None seem to make it work.

Appreciate that it's working fine for most, and indeed it's working fine on my Mac running OSX, just won't seem to work on Windows and I'd quite like to figure out why.

Don't know what changed, but I downloaded and re-installed <for the 10th+ time>...and it works now.

Prior to that, this was the section of the windbg output where the program failed
