Hi.

I am new to the forums and did a search but did not find a definitive answer and am not sure if this is the right discussion area for my query

Is there any way to stop Makemkv from removing forced subtitles if they are empty whether making an MKV file or doing a backup

I have just selected the forced subtitle track on its own and used the flags df and they still get removed

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kYGL0B ... sp=sharing

and I still get this error

AV sync issue in stream 7 at 0:00:00 : Forced subtitles track #7 turned out to be empty and was removed from output file

MakeMKV is not thee only one to do it, Xreveal does it when rip to folder is selected

Is there a way just to get a full backup without out anything removed or extract the forced subtitle track on its own and then mux it back in to the MKV file

MakeMKV assumes that tracks have forced subtitles flagged separately from normal subtitles, so, for every subtitle track found, they create 2... An "Everything" track, and a "Forced only" track.

If the "forced only" track turns out to have no subtitles (none were flagged), that track is removed from the directory at the head of the MKV file.

The report is not an error; it is simply letting you know. When you do NOT see it, you're going to find a (smaller) forced subtitle track in the MKV, for use by players that don't understand the flags. In the early days, that was most players, but any player written in the last 15 or so years will know how to isolate forced/not forced, so it's more legacy than important.

Not to mention the fact that most disks separate the forced from non-forced subtitles in separate tracks...
