[Feature request] Ripping Blu-rays ignoring PLAYLIST folder

I'm trying to rip the Supernatural Blu-ray boxset that I bought a while ago, only to find that the discs mostly have bunched up all episodes into one giant file. That's really impractical because I'd have to manually split up that one giant episode file.

I've found a workaround on Reddit, first backing up the Blu-ray using MakeMKV, then delete the PLAYLIST folder from that backup and then use MakeMKV to rip that backup. That way, MakeMKV displays all individual episodes.

Would it be possible to integrate a function into MakeMKV telling it to ignore the PLAYLIST folder when loading a Blu-ray disc? That way, it would be possible to immediately rip the individual episodes without first having to back up the disc and removing the PLAYLIST folder. Of course, such a function would be disabled by default so a user can enable it for discs like those from Supernatural.

And you lose all information about language and other tags of all streams (audio and subtitles) as well as won't have any chapter information anymore. I wouldn't follow that way.

That's incorrect. Audio and subtitle streams still have correct language information. For me, that's enough, chapter information isn't that relevant to me, I never use that anyway.

I don't have that box set. Out of curiosity, are there .mpls files defining each episode? Did MakeMKV throw them out because it thought they were duplicates?

Using MediaInfo, even within the folder structure, the M2TS file (on the left) does not display any information about languages, on the right the mpls file does:

so in this case MediaInfo seem not to care about any other files in the folder structure. If this is only different on my system for some reason, then I apologize.

It being bunched into one file is really helpful though - they create a playlist like that so the player can easily offer a "play all" function. What this means is the mega-file is guaranteed to have it's episodes in order; you can safely assume the 3rd ep in a season is actually the 3rd.

May I suggest using mkvtoolnix and its split-before-chapter function? They typically put chapter markers at the episode breaks.
