I am trying to build a database from DVD's, Cd's et cetera, using my macbook pro, it doesn't come with a disk drive so i'm trying to order an external one from amazon, it seems the overall top pick that shows up is like 20$ but it doesn't mention blu-ray, the first one that mentions blu-ray is $81 but the cheapest is 39.99 from a brand "APPINESSEY" what should i be looking for? how can i be certain I'm getting what i need? thank you for any help.

Do you want to be able to rip 4K UHDs? If you do, that'll set you on a fairly narrow path of optical drives that can do that.

Look for BD-ROM (read-only) if you just want to rip/read discs; BD-RE if you want to write Blu-ray

USB-powered slim drives are fine for a MacBook Pro

Avoid unknown brands — compatibility and reliability are hit-or-miss

Reliable budget options: LG or Pioneer external Blu-ray drives are widely trusted and usually the cheapest reliable choice. If it’s under ~$40, it’s almost certainly not Blu-ray, regardless of the listing photos.

On macOS, note that Blu-ray movie playback needs third-party software, but ripping data discs works fine.
