I have a Windows 10 laptop that I use exclusively for MakeMKV.
Given Microsoft's changes lately with Windows 11, I'd prefer to continue to maintain a router firewall rule to ban it from the internet, allowing access only to the local network to transfer the output files from MakeMKV.
Recently, I inserted a 4K disc for a newly released movie, which MakeMKV did not recognize until I disabled my router rule so MakeMKV could update its keydb definitions. Afterwards, it recognized the disc and converted it to an .mkv without issue.
My question is: What's the best way for me to update keydb in the future without directly connecting my laptop to the internet?
Is it to download the latest keydb zip from another internet connected device and then put the extracted cfg in the .makemkv folder in the user home directory?
Offline keydb upgrade
Re: Offline keydb upgrade
By default, the built-in key mechanism MakeMKV uses is hashed keys. When you temporarily disabled your firewall rule, MakeMKV downloaded updated hashed keys. As far as I'm aware, the only way to get them is to let MakeMKV download them when needed.
In addition to hashed keys, MakeMKV can also use the public keyDB. If you like, you can download it from the internet, place the file in the correct spot in your MakeMKV install and MakeMKV will also use it for unlocking discs. Here's some details: Public KeyDB Disc Submissions

You don't download the whole KEYDB.cfg but you add just new keys. On Windows KeyDBTool synchronize does that.shadow-archetype wrote: ↑Sun Nov 09, 2025 2:35 pmI have a Windows 10 laptop that I use exclusively for MakeMKV.

My tool uses FindVUK under the covers to do the KeyDB sync. IOW, you need an internet connection to do so. You'd have to manually copy it to your non-internet machine if you do that. But that's true of all these scenarios.
