Version is too old

Today I got a message that said the current "version is too old" and to download the latest version from the website or purchase a key. I have version 1.17.8 and the latest version on the download page is also 1.17.8. I downloaded and installed it anyways and still get the "version is too old" message.
I dug around the forums and
found this post from November last year with a similar issue. There the poster mentions the version expiry date of 24 January 2025 (today). I cannot verify what it says on mine because I can't get to the Help --> About window. Every time I click OK on the version message box it shuts down the program. I have only been using MakeMKV for about 10 days and had not yet reached the end of the trial period for Blue-ray disks. I suspect any new user trying to download the program for the first time today will get the same message and will probably confuse them even more than I am now.
I eventually found the
key for Beta evaluation and this has allowed me to get it working again (at least for the next 7 days). Now that I can open the program properly I can see in Help --> About that yes in fact the version expires today (screenshot below).

I was planning on purchasing a key after my 30 days Blue-ray evaluation period expired but thought I had more time than this. To top it off I just got a few UHD disks in the mail today and haven't even had the chance to get those working yet (problem for another post or more googling I think).
Is a version 1.17.9+ in the process that will address this problem?

The version doesn't change when the key within it expires; the message you mentioned has the current key.
1.17.9 will be out when Mike decides there needs to be a program update. Keys aren't program updates.

Same here. Updated to 1.17.8 and still it complains that it's too old.

You can get around the version is too old issue temporarily by changing the date.

Hello !
Same thing here since today... 10 days trial out of 30 but program refuses to work anymore

Did try same things (download, uninstall, reinstall) at no avail
If I should buy a licence, will it work or the program will still exit with the same message ?

Having the same problem. I bought the software back in 2015 but can't find the key. Of course the links in the purchase email from back then are not working, nor does the order information work. Does my purchase still account for this version? If so, how can I retrieve my key?

Yes, the key lasts "forever", once issued. I'm still running on mine from 2012. Damn, that was a long time ago...

Good to know but I still don’t know how to retrieve my key. The links in my email confirmation doesn’t work.

When I purchased MakeMKV in 2019, in the same minute, I got two emails. One was the receipt and the other contained my key. I can find them in my email by searching for 'makemkv'.
I suppose you could email
support@makemkv.com with your order number and request your key.
I'm sure the payment processor has changed since 2015. I don't know if you can contact the current payment processor via a support chat and ask them. PayPro Global is the current payment processor.

The old payment processor was Avangate. If you have your order number, you might be able to retrieve your key from them. Start with this page:

I tried that. Sent me to a page to enter my email address and order number. I entered those in to retrieve an an access link but when I hit "send" it takes me to a 404 error page. The page doesn't say Avangate on it, says it's powered my Verifone so it's kinda sketch.

I sent an email to support 5 days ago requesting retrieval of my key. Know how long it takes for someone to respond?

That I cannot say. I sent a message to Mike a couple days ago on a different subject, and haven't gotten a response yet.
This weekend is when the current key expires, so he SHOULD be showing up for that...

Copy that. I'll give it some more time. Thanks.
