Has anyone had success with HD DVDs using makemkv and the Xbox HD DVD optical drives?

I have a few HD DVDs that I'd like to back up since theyre susceptible to disc rot.
The HD DVD has a USB 2.0 connector in the back, will makemkv recognize it as a regular optical?
Will I need any other software or hardware to make it work? (using Win 11, 24H2)

I do not think it is worth the trouble to mess with the HD-DVDs and try to rip them.

I have several and decided that it is not worth the effort. I have the Bluray version of the same movies for ripping/watching
