VIDEO STUTTER WHEN ENABLING SUBTITLES

New to this forum....
I have converted DVD's to mkv's and copied to usb hard drive which I connect to a netgear router w/media server capabilites. I then play them over my local wifi.

My probllem is that when I enable subtitles, the video hesitates when the subtitle box changes to a new conversation???

Its like video...subtitle...hesitate...subtitle... and so on....is this inherent to mkv or do I need to make adjustments when I convert?

That's not standard - usually, there should be smooth playing. Quite likely, it's a problem with the router's sharing. The description seems to indicate that the router is doing video conversion, and having issue rendering the subtitles, rather than sending them to your TV to display.
