Creating ISO with MakeMKV

Is it possible to create ISOs with MakeMKV, or should I look into alternative software for this specific task?

DVD's are currently the only format that will create an ISO by default from what I see.
I currently just back-up the BD/UHD disc, then use imgburn to convert it to an ISO file.

Why do you need to create ISO's, are you burning discs? To play an ISO in Windows mount it on a virtual drive, not sure but I think there may be some software players that will directly play an ISO.
Edit: Apparently VLC can directly plan an ISO.

I mainly create the ISO's to transfer files faster onto another drive. It's much faster to transfer a single file than it is thousands of files in the back-up folder. Especially when you're moving several movies at once onto a new drive.
And yes, VLC can play ISO's.

VLC can play ISOs but it doesn't give you the menu from the Blu-ray disc. If it's a TV show, you can't even select which episode you want to watch.

If you do a backup, you get the full menu UI created for the movie/TV show.
You do have to make sure you have java installed/upgraded for it to work though

Each to their own of course and obviously we each have our preferred methods.
Unless storage space is of no concern isn't it wasting what could be a lot space storing menus, extras, lots of un needed subtitle and audio streams in the ISO? Is this just for playback on your computer, you can't stream an ISO across a home network to whatever devices, play via TV's media player or some other media player, or can you? As said, each to their own but I prefer main movie only and whatever audio/subs streams I want in the rip. Likewise episodic discs, just each episode.

Yeah, you're probably right. It's better to save it as an MKV. I just wanted to know how I can play the full disc with menus and stuff.

You do have to make sure you have java installed/upgraded for it to work though
I tried installing java but windows doesn't let me.

You doing online or offline install? If online, you've not got a firewall blocking the install files being downloaded?

Maybe try downloading it from this link to see if your computer doesn't flag it

It's okay, I won't have to use it anyway. I'm guessing there's a security risk involved when it comes to java. I better not install it.

It seems pointless making feature requests and bug reports on this forum as they're either being ignored or not even being read by the developer, but...
I would love it if MakeMKV had the option to make an ISO of Blu-ray's and UltraHDs as well.
Maybe unchecking the "Decrypt video files" option during Backup could then make an ISO of the
entire (encrypted) disc, but using the decrypt option could continue to make the indivual folders/files as it does now.
There's no point having the individual encrypted files anyway, you can't do anything with them.

If you want to do this, you don't need go down the ISO path. If you've made a decrypted backup with MakeMKV, just open that backup folder with VLC and it will play as if the disc was in the drive (only much faster), with menus and everything.
Open VLC MP, click on Media > Open Disc...
Select the "Blu-ray" radio button and make sure "No disc menus" is NOT checked
Now browse for and select the top level of your decrypted backup folder (normally the name of the disc), and click "Play"
As above, it should now play exactly as it would have from the disc.
