Currently have some goofy old BluRay drive I got on eBay for £20, and it works okay for DVDs (8x rip speed), but on blu rays it's painfully slow at 2x rip speed. I was thinking of buying a WH16NS40 because it's pretty cheap on Amazon atm. I've heard some drives limit themselves to 2x speed until you turn off "quiet mode". Does that apply to this drive, and if so, is there a way to turn that off on linux?

It Will rip burays out of the box at 6x peak avg around 4.5x
If you flash it to WH16NS60 peak will be 8x and avg is like 6x
You can unlock it further to do 12x but not sure if I recommend it.

Thanks, received mine the other day and it seems to hit about 7.5x peak, varies blu-ray to blu-ray. Definitely much faster than the other one I had.

Just in case anyone stumbles upon this in the future, I am using it on PopOS 22.04 LTS (NVidia), it's attached directly via a SATA cable to the motherboard.
