Developer cannot be verified

I installed v1.17.2 on my MacPro running OS 10.15.7 but when I launch the application, I get a warning: "MakeMKV cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified. MacOS cannot verify that this app is free from malware."
What now??

OK, after searching the Forum for others who have had this problem, I see that there is a solution. But, it is strange that the app worked prior to this most recent update.

For me the last several updates have had a similar message. However, I've been on Big Sur (macOS 11) and Monterey (macOS 12) for a while.
I was afraid of Catalina so much that I never ran anything on it. I went from Mojave to Big Sur.
