1.6.4/1.6.5 hanging with UMTS modem

Since 1.6.4 makemkv is hanging in the programme initialization phase, when I am using my USB UMTS modem which is mounted as mass storage device. When I disconnect the modem physically (means unplugging the usb device from the computer), everything works fine. When connecting the modem, makemkv is hanging when checking the device "BD-ROM Huawei Mass Storage 2.31" which is the modem (see attached screenshot).

Can anybody help me how to run makemkv without having to disconnect the modem every time?

I run makemkv on Win7 64 bit and meanwhile stepped back to 1.6.3, where everything works fine.
