Hello --- I just ripped a dvd9 --- around 8g on the disk --- when the rip was finished, the size of all the mkv files was over 23g --- how does this happen?

Guessing the disk was issued by Lionsgate, and you have dozens of fake titles, and one real one.

Without knowing WHICH title, it's hard to say which title was correct.

imagine it's terminator 2 which I think had 3 versions of the movie on on 1 disc, using DVD's version of seamless branching.

so, if you would rip every version it would end up somewhere around 3x the size you expect from a single verison as most of the content would be duplicated 3x.
