Does any Blu Ray drive work?

Most of the info and discussion I see about this is about 4k blu rays. I don't want to rip 4k blu rays, just normal ones. Would any drive work for this? For example something super cheap like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184792303350 ... SwX4BghaWG ?

MakeMKV should be able to open any disc that your Optical Disc Drive can read, so as long as this ODD is functional it should work.

As the player keys for Blu-ray Disc have been leaked for awhile now, yes, any Blu-ray Disc drive will work for ripping. Specific drives are needed for 4k UltraHD Blu-ray Discs because the way extraction is done with title keys only works with some drives.

Different answers for different criteria.

Yes, MakeMKV will work for regular BDs with just about any major-brand BD player, but some are more "future proof" than others.

A BD drive that has a LibreDrive-compatible firmware will be less susceptible to player key revocation and any complaints about region coding.
