Converting into CC subtitles?

I noticed MAKEMKV is capable of converting certain DVD subtitles into SRT closed-caption ones. Can you explain that feature?

Some old discs have subtitles that are not in the picture based format called VobSub. I forgot what it was, however I suspect this is what MakeMKV does to preserve them.

MakeMKV will use ccextractor to pull Closed Captioning text from the video stream, and add them in to the MKV file as an SRT subtitle.

Sometimes DVDs say they have Closed Captioning, but do not; when this happens, ccextractor will take a LONG time to figure that out, and MakeMKV will seem to freeze when that happens.

Is this a new feature? I never noticed before.

What he said. :)

The time you will most likely notice it is when you try to rip something like Gone With the Wind, which has fake CC.
