Hi, questions about DTS-HD and DTS.
Btw, I know there are posts on this topic, but the forum search does not find anything when searching for dts or dts-hd.

My understanding is that DTS-HD is backward compatible with DTS, i.e. there is only one stream on the BD media.

I have one AV receiver that can decode DTS-HD, and in another room a receiver that can only decode DTS.
If I rip the DTS-HD audio only, will it play ok on DTS-HD and DTS capable devices?
Or do I need to rip both DTS-HD and DTS?

I had the same thought when I decided to buy an HD receiver.

My solution is to always keep both HD and Core audio.. you never know
For example my second player is my PC with tvout, but without an hdmi videocard I can only use spdif cable, which is able to stream only Core audio and not DTS-HD.

What about discs with dual sound tracks for Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital, and MakeMKV offers to extract "core" DD from TrueHD.
Am I better of using the discs own DD track, or using the core extracted from THD?

If mediainfo shows it as AC3 640kbps, you can 100% be sure is the same as the Core audio extracted from Dolby TrueHD.
I usually extract the core with HD audio, by the way.
