I have the LG drive and it has been a solid choice for me. I do get speeds faster than 3.0x. I'm getting 6.0x at around 40% complete on the disc I'm processing now. You probably can't go wrong with either drive. If you have a large volume of discs to get through, MakeMKV supports running multiple instances of itself. If you get a new drive, keep your existing drive and process two discs at the same time.

Unmodified LGs are subject to having their speed limited when the firmware detects that you're reading a video disk. They SAY it's so that the drive is quiet when used in a home media system, but it mainly interferes with ripping speeds. It can be disabled, but that takes finding the utility that LG created (and pretty much hid from the world) to toggle that setting off.
Sometimes it doesn't detect that you're ripping video, and the speed jumps up to what they claim it can do. And LibreDrive can now disable the limit, if your firmware supports it.
