Hello, I'm new to this forum and I would like to flash my bluray drive to be able to read uhd movie disc. However, I'm confused on how to do it, Ive downloaded the flasher (sdftool_flasher) and the mk firmware pack, but I'm not sure if my drive is supported by the firmware file

HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS40-NS50-1.05-NM00900-212005061440

My drive is a WH16NS40-NS50 and I just bought it a week or so ago. I installed make mkv because I wanted to find out what the firmware version was and the the drive plate form.

Drive Information
OS device name: G:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE WH16NS40
Revision: 1.04
Serial number: KLZK5GB3712
Firmware date: 2119-01-04 13:48
Bus encryption flags: 17

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959

What I'm confused about is the firmware version 1.04 can I flash it with HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS40-NS50-1.05-NM00900-212005061440 that's supplied in the firmware pack without bricking my drive.

you can but i wouldn't recommend it it may complicate downgrading later since that firmware may encrypt your drive im not sure if mk fw disables that or not.
i recommend WH16NS60 1.02
you can always contact me about a remote flash did a few today its all automated and i can make your dive work with whatever rippers you want 1.05mk has limited comparability not due to the fw itself but because other rippers black list it or only white list know working firmware

how would a remote flash work and what would that cost for inquiry. I don't mind flashing it myself I just want to make sure I do it right. you recommend WH16NS60 1.02 but my drive is a BD-RE WH16NS40 ns50. and the programs I would mostly use is dvdfab, dvd shrink which is old and only for dvd's ,xmedia recode and handbrake.

I tried flashing it myself but I get a message (write dram ng 05/26/03)

I used this video but it wasn't a success for me, at least my drive wasn't bricked. but is there another method to downgrade the firmware from 1.04 to 1.02.
