Where is the clean MKV codec download? A quick search brings up a bunch of links, but...
Something that allows Linux/Windows to recognize all of the meta-data. Maybe even allows Sony Vegas to edit the files.
Scanned through the posts in here, and didn't see one for this topic. If i missed it, a link to it will cover this.

MKV is a container, not a codec. It can contain a variety of codecs.

What the container can contain is outlined in the Metroska specification documents:
