Most likely cause is either a corrupted download, or your antivirus software is interfering.

MakeMKV has code in it to contact this server to look for updates. Microsoft and a few other AV vendors periodically decide that it is "unsafe", and move parts of the install program to their "virus vault", meaning it isn't there when the installer tries to run it.

I'm having the same problem with 1.14.2, nothing has worked since it was installed. I'm using Windows Defender and it hasn't indicated anything was detected.

Yes something definitely up. I managed to rip a bluray and DVD OK but was getting this message on startup of the program:

LibreDrive firmware support is not yet available for this drive (id=F8B3C9080B22)

My 4K friendly drive would not open the Mission Impossible Fallout UHD disk. So I re-downloaded the program and it now seems to be working with that disc but sluggishly.

I've deleted and reinstalled it numerous times. I get several errors, or sometimes nothing at all and the disc just spins and spins and spins.

I also have fallout, and a stock lg drive with 1.0 firmware on its way from Alex. This is a Dolby vision disk! How will that rip and what happens if there is no DV capability in the playback chain? Roku ultra doesn't support vision. My Samsung uhd tv won't support vision either cause sammy is still throwing a fit and won't pay homage to dolby .

So how will this title look on my TV?

If you're ripping to MKV it won't store the DV track anyway, so, yes, it'll default to HDR10 which is good for the equipment you have.

i think so if the roku does 4k hdr but not 100% sure

Not really. There's nothing Mike can really do about it. MKV doesn't have a spec for Dolby Vision. If that ever changes then ripping the second video track (the Dolby Vision track) and adding it to the MKV would be possible. But, I haven't seen anything that suggests that's coming any time soon. And everything in the chain would have to support that version of the MKV spec. Also not super likely any time soon. If you want Dolby Vision there's a thread in the UHD Disc section that talks about putting it in an MP4 container, however, there are drawbacks to that around what kind of audio you can stick in an MP4 container.

vision is not supported in .mkv format but if you do a full disk backup and use the .m2ts file that will have Dolby vision in it and will work in a player that supports m2ts files and supports Dolby vision.
its not a makemkv problem its a mkv problem
