Just a real basic getting started question

I promise you I read the FAQ section, but I think it assumes that you understand more than a n00b like myself does. I ran MakeMKV last night on Robin Hood, and I ended up with five folders named BDMV, CERTIFICATE, MAKEMKV, 10542576 (zipped), and 105424592 (zipped), plus a file named FilmIndex. I have used other decrypters before and I don't remember seeing anything like this. I don't see how I could use a piece of software like VLC to watch this decoded series of folders, much less make an avi/mp4 out of it. What concept am I missing? If there is a real FAQ I missed, feel free to point me in that direction.
TIA

You probably clicked on "Backup", rather than the big logo that said BluRay.
The backup option creates a copy of the BD file structure on your hard drive, optionally removing the encryption. A BD-aware player would expect all those folders to be present. Most want to be pointed at the "index" file in the main folder, and they pick up the BD menu system from there.
If you instead click on the big icon, you will "open" the disk, and you can then select which titles on it you want to save as MKV files. You can also select which audio and subtitle tracks you want included.
Recommendation: Take some time to play with it. Try different settings. It doesn't cost extra money to rip a disk a dozen different ways to see what results you get. If you open the Preferences menu, under "General", you can turn on "Expert mode", which opens even more options that you'll want to know about later.

The "big icon" is the large square on the bottom left with the animation of a disc loading. It's a really big button.
