AppleTV VLC app does not find mkv files

The VLC app on latest AppleTV does not seem to be able to see the makemkv movie file on my network drive. Standard mpg movie files have no issue at all. Any workaround? Thank.

Are you sharing the network drive under DLNA, SMB, or NFS protocol? It makes a difference - some DLNA server software does not share files if the file extension is "wrong", and several that I've tried do not share MKV files.
