MakeMKV internals

First of all, kudos to you always, Mike! It's a great software.
I was wondering which programming language you used to write makemkv (specifically makemkvcon). Could you share some details? I tried searching for this info but couldn't find it. How did the project idea come about? How many people work on it actively?
One last question - everytime a new key in entered, the program asks us to close it and re-open. What is the technical limitation for the program to use the newly provided key and continue to operate?
