Wasn't sure if we needed separate threads for this movie but I'm also unable to rip Avatar (US Region) with MakeMKV 1.5.4.

This is the error I received, (I did make sure I had the latest svq combo file listed at http://www.makemkv.com/svq/)

I have also attached the complete BD+ Dump file as well.

Hi!

It doesn't hurt to report it again (I believe it's alkready been reported twice - one U.S. the other Europe), but it really doesn't provide any additional information.

As I posted in other threads (yesterday and today):
In another thread about "AVATAR" yesterday, I said:"I'm confident that shortly after the official U.S. release date of 4/22/10, MakeMKV will provide the means for dealing with the anticipated "Avatar" BluRay new BD+ protection. (MakeMKV is already capable of dealing withthe new v.17 of the AACS "key").the best of my knowledge, the new BD+ protection used with the "Avatar" BluRay has not yet been successfully circumvented by any program at this moment...

I just noticed that, just like "Crazy Heart", "Avatar" uses BMKV 16, not BMKV 17...

BTW - For future reference, there's no need to post your SVQ dumps to the forum. As the instructions indicate, Just send them to: svq@makemkv.com

My copy of MakeMKV 1.5.4 is making an MKV of Avatar blu-ray right now.

Download the free copy of DVDFab HD Decrypter from dvdfab.com.
Use the Blu-ray to Blu-ray function to copy the main movie to your hard drive.
Open the index.bdmv file in MakeMKV, chose your audio options, and away your go.

I'm sure the good folks here at MakeMKV will get it working with the new BD+ on Avatar shortly, but this is a good alternative in the meanwhile.

Unfortunately my free copy of DVDFab HD Decrypter from dvdfab.com has expired. Since I refure the astronomical annual rates charged for that software I will wait. Thanks for the tip though, I;m sure many will benefit.

Well, if you haven't used a 30 day trial from AnyDVD HD, they've cracked the BD+ as well.

Just to note: The German version of Avatar can't be ripped, either.

hi there,

you guys did incredible work with makemkv - it is a really fast native application for bluray-ripping: and these are rare on mac os x.
-gratulations!!!! :D

but what about your statement in the faqs:

"MakeMKV supports all commercial Blu-ray discs protected by latest versions of AACS and BD+. Occasionally, when movie studios update AACS and BD+ versions, a new version of MakeMKV needs to be downloaded. For the entire history of MakeMKV, the program was always updated next day after or days before the release date of disc employing new protection."

for mac users (without e.g. anydvd) it is still impossible to rip succesfully: neither days before the avatar-release nor now (more than several days after the release).

is there any problem regarding the bd+5 copyprotection?

best wishes!

I wouldn't call it a problem it's simply the case that programming takes time. He's working on it. If you want to help read this post and send him the information he needs:
