Hi,

I have an LG Blu-ray drive and MakeMKV works fine, however, with my Sony DVD-RW it fails to recognise the drive. The 'Info' panel says 'No information available' when a DVD is inserted.

Any ideas what this could be?

Here is the log upon starting MakeMKV:

Hi!

How can you say, "it's not recognizing the drive", when the log states:
Error 'Internal error - Input parameter is incorrect (642)' occured while reading 'DVD+R-DL SONY DVD RW AW-G170A 1.71' at offset '32768'
I presume you mean that the drive is failibng to recognize the disc (DVD)

Although I'm sure "mike admin" will provide an answer regarding the specific error message, until he does, let me ask:

1) Are you able to properly use that drive now for functions not related to MakeMKV?

2) Have you tried cleaning the specific problematic DVD?

3) Have you tried running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on the drive? Maxell makes one that sells for about $10 U.S.

You have an empty DVD-R disc in your drive. Eject it.

Thanks for your responses.

In answer to your questions:

Yes, DVDs are recognised in Windows, I can play them, and I can rip using DVDFab.
setarip_old wrote:2) Have you tried cleaning the specific problematic DVD?
I've tried multiple DVDs, it seems that all DVD-Rs are not recognised by MakeMKV (I've tried different brands). I've tried a couple of pressed DVDs and they seem to work fine. :?

I've dismantled the drive and cleaned the top lens. The inside of the drive was clean and dust free.

I've attached a screenshot which shows a DVD-R inserted. MakeMKV seems to think it's a data disc? If I put the same disc in my LG drive (on the same machine) then it recognises it fine.
