Hi ,

I just found out about MakeMKV the other day. I want to back up a bunch of my Dvds and Blurays to an external HDD. I have a region 2 martial arts film that is in Chinese but has the option of English subtitles. I made a copy last night using MakeMKV but all it had was Chines e subtitles. Any way I can get the English subtitles on it?

thanks!!!

You probably have the English subtitles, but they are NOT the first subtitle track in the file.... Chinese is. And your playback software treats the first track as the default to play.

A number of things can be done. One is to open the disk again in MakeMKV, and then click the little triangle next to the main title in the left menu. It will open up the track list. What order are the subtitle tracks listed? If Chinese is first, deselect it so that ONLY the English track is extracted.

Alternatively, you can use mkvmerge from mkvtoolnix (it's searchable on Google for the website) to renumber the subtitle tracks. Or, what I do, process the file through handbrake (handbrake.fr) to compress it AND rearrange the tracks to suit your player.
