makeMKV no longer working since Win 10 upgrade?

Hi,

I am new to this forum. Please direct me if my post should go somewhere else. I have been using this software happily for the last three years or so. Ever since I upgraded my computer in August to Windows 10, I have not been able to backup or rip any BRD with makeMKV. I invriably end up with several error lines like "Scsi error - illegal request / hardware error:44A0..." and final lines like:

" Can't read AACS VID from disc - most likely current AACS host certificate is revoked by your drive
Highest AACS version is v46 , MKB saved as C:\Users\MyUserName/.MakeMKV/MKB_v46_IT_ETAIT_UNE_FORET.tgz
The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Failed to open disc."

With DVDFab9 i had no issues ripping the BRDs to folder or ISO. So I am not sure why makeMKV can no longer do the same.

Please help!

Thanks

Make sure you are running MakeMKV as an administrator.

Does not make any difference. Still the same result: fails to open/backup BRDs.

There are some other topics here on Windows 10 issues. One of them has been that components introduced with Win10 will disable parts of MakeMKV that deal with getting around copy protection.

I can only offer indirect advice on Win10. Our company has banned its installation on company computers. We have tested two systems with it, and both started having MAJOR compatibility and connectivity issues shortly after installation.

Amazingly, though, during the time you could "safely" undo the upgrade, the problems were minimal. Then they stopped being able to access internet through the company network, while allowing it through outside networks, which was the "killer" for us; We could work around the application compatibility issues, but failing to use the network when your BUSINESS is network communications made it useless. They're scheduled to have their drives wiped and Win7 reinstalled, once we get out of our peak season.

I have also not been able to run makeMKV after my Windows 10 upgrade.

My unsuccessful efforts so far (v1.9.7 and v1.9.8):
>I run Bitdefender, I added the executable file(s) to the Bitdefender trusted applications list.
>I have tried launching the app as the admin
>I have removed the app and reloaded using the troubleshoot compatibility option (using the Windows compatibility mode: Windows 7)

The results are all the same; the program hangs (Not Responding) and followed with the MakeMKV popup: Fatal error occurred, program will now exit.
I am not able to configure logging, since I am not able to complete the initialization of the program.

Cheers, JeB

Same issue here, program was working fine 2 weeks ago. Looks like I had some windows 10 updates and now when I run it, it starts up and hangs for a few minutes and then crashes.
Fatal error occurred, program will now exit.

The only way I got MakeMKV to work after Windows 10 upgrade to work was to clean install Windows 10 after upgrade was completed.

I got the same problem, in fact it work with the x86 version but i got the same error message with the x64 version
You can read a solution to make it work in x86 HERE
It doesn't solve the problem but at least you can run MakeMKV in x86

my config is :
ASRock Z77 Extreme4
i5 2500k
16 Go DDR3
Windows x64
Bitdefender Internet Security 2016

MakeMKV works perfectly under Linux Mint.

Having same issue, following clean install of Windows 10.

MakeMKV hangs immediately on start-up, then closes itself following a fatal error

I am running Windows 10 64-bit and Bitdefender Antivirus 2016.

MakeMKV is run as an administrator.

Added MakeMKV program folder to Bitdefender Antivirus 2016 Excluded Files and Folders.

ie C:\program files (X86)\makemkv

MakeMKV works perfectly for me with this setting.

JNB

Hi,

didn't want to start a new topic since the same topic already exists. I own Win10 64bit and have all the latest Windows Updates. My system is actual of today's date 13th of february 2016.
However, when I want to start makemkv it simply doesn't react and after maybe 10-15 seconds it says "There was a problem. Program terminating" (in german "Fehler aufgetreten, Propgramm wird beendet").

Eventviewer says:

I hope somebody can help? I'm running Bitdefender (the free version from end of 2015), there's an exclusion for the makemkv directory.

I have no idea what more I could do. Program running as admin doesn't change anything.

I have a similar issue. Here is what event view says:

This worked perfectly on 1/24 as I converted a bunch of Blu Rays. Once the January key expired I was SOL and can't apply the new key since I can't start the application without getting a fatal error.

Seems to be tied to BitDefender. I disabled On-Access scanning and registered with the new key and it works fine. Guess the moral of the story is an expired key in MakeMKV makes BitDefender not trust it anymore.

Not really - BitDefender is probably having its heart attack over the fact that makemkv.com is hosted in Russia... And anything in Russia MUST be a command and control computer for someone trying to steal your identity, right?

This is why a lot of people disable checking for new versions until/unless they have some reason to turn it on. Paranoia in the online world is one of the key ways to make sure you don't lose control of your computer.
