Subtitles - List Out Track #?
Subtitles - List Out Track #?
I just tested out MakeMKV on District 9 and it correctly shows forced subs which is great. Is there any way that MakeMKV can list out for each audio or subtitle track the Track #? Currently MakeMKV does not do this so it is very difficult to determine which are the correct forced subs to grab. For example, I know that District 9, Track #7 (based off of eac3to) is the forced subs track that I want, yet from looking at MakeMKV it is not clear which track this is, so it becomes a bit of a guessing game. Usually from searching around the web you can find out which track # is the correct one to grab, so that is how I knew I needed Track #7 before I ripped District 9. Thanks
Cheers,
Damian

Re: Subtitles - List Out Track #?
Let me clarify - on blu-ray there is no such thing as separate forced subtitles, it's just subtitle track with langauage XXX. Some pictures in this track have a "forced" flag but you wouldn't know it unless you encounter the picture. So what MakeMKV does - it creates a two selectable tracks for each PGS subtitle track with second track containing ONLY forced subs. If at the end it turns out that there were no forced subtitles and the second track is empty then MakeMKV will remove any references to this track from produced MKV header. So MakeMKV shows option to select forced subtitles for all subtitles but it's harmless to keep it enabled for entire title so you don't have to worry which track to grab - grab them all. Does it answer your question?
Re: Subtitles - List Out Track #?
thanks for clearing that up Mike. I was a bit confused about the forced subtitles as well. Now we just have to figure out a way to detect movies that have a separate track with just forced subtitles.

Re: Subtitles - List Out Track #?
I'm a nube so just to make sure I get the picture(pun intended) the strategy for forced subs would be check both the Eng. Sub stream, and the sub option Only Forced Subs. Then if I end up with 2 Eng Sub streams I know the small one is forced subs. If I only end up with 1 stream then I need to encode them as selectable subs in case I need to turn them on for a section that would ordinarily be a forced sub in a standard DVD?

if you select 2 tracks, regualar and forced sub track, and end up with a single track then it means that there are NO forced subtitles in a first track.

Also make sure you research what subtitle formats are compatible with what players/software. For instance, for Blu Rays MakeMKV creates pgs subtitles which right now aren't being picked up by MPC HC, whereas the IDX/Sub subtitles I was using before were picked up. I might just have to do a little more digging around with MPC HC to see if there is an option that needs to be checked.

Re: Subtitles - List Out Track #?
What am I reading for? Basically I was hoping to just use MakeMKV, get the forced subs in, and call it a day. I am already doing the BDSup2Sub/MKVMerge thing to get idx/sub subtitles. It really isnt a big deal since most of the movies I watch don't have forced subs, but would be nice to cut out a step.setarip_old wrote:@dbone1026

To see that what you were suggesting already appears in an earlier post by the "Admin"...What am I reading for?
Re: Subtitles - List Out Track #?
Thanks, I followed that. I know some people were just ripping Blu Rays with the forced subs with MakeMKV but having problems with the subs being read, not realizing that an additional step(s) is still requiredsetarip_old wrote:To see that what you were suggesting already appears in an earlier post by the "Admin"...What am I reading for?
