Some videos, when ripped, skip around in time

I've had this happen on a couple blu ray videos I have ripped. For example "Now You See Me" and "Red 2".

At a certain part in the movie the video will jump in time about 1 minute or so in the future and play there for about 3-5 minutes. Then it will jump backwards to the section it missed until that section is played. Finally it will catch back up.

I'm using an ASUS bw-12b1st blu ray burner. I've played the MKV file on multiple video players and its definetly something embedded in the video file.

Has anybody else seen this problem? It does not happen on a chapter boundary.

One thing to check is how many titles there are on the disk. A form of "copy protection" is to put multiple titles on that are about the same length, but have the scene order scrambled. If you get the correct title, everything is fine.

You will find a topics on forums all over internet on which track(s) are "right" for RED 2; it varies with which version of the disk you get. Same for Ender's Game, and dozens of other popular titles.

Ah thank you. That is very helpful. I have seen some blu rays where they have 20+ video tracks all about the same size. This make sense now. Just searching around in these forums I found this statement.

In any case, this explains the momentary scene "flashbacks" to the funeral I was getting when proofing the entire video as opposed to simply spot checking at the chapter markers. Thanks again.

Which is exactly where I see the problem. During the funeral Bruce Willis gets up to say a few words then it flashes back to him getting up again.

Glad to know its not my hardware or software, just tricky copy right protection.

Sorry to resurrect a pretty ancient thread, but I'm having the same issues with many of my legitimately owned movies when I back them up to my media server and I'm curious if there is a website or something that is a central repository for the information required to rip watchable copies of my movies that are effected by this form of "copy prevention" measures.... I'll keep looking in the mean time and respond to my own question if I find something before someone has an answer. (TIA)

On a side rant, I'm super annoyed that this is something they do. Does nothing to prevent people from ripping the movie and just makes it harder for everyone, including those who actually bought the freaking movie. Makes me wonder why I bother. Get a freaking clue.

Found this after some quick searching. I'll update in a few days (if I remember) on whether or not this actually works consistently after I have a chance to try it out on a few of my problem movies.
