Hi!

Is it possible to get the 'Volume Unique Key' of a bluray disc with MakeMKV?

Thanks in advance!

No, but you can use MakeMKV to emulate libaacs.

Works everywhere. What OS are you using?

It's not a problem of the OS but the cpu architecture - I'd like to use it on ARM.
I've started some tests using the raspberry pi as bluray player and although it's hardly possible (because of the slow cpu) it's also limited by the fact that I can only play older discs where I can still get the VUK using for example aacskeys.. but newer ones aren't possible.
Next I'll try the upcoming ODROID-U3 that would have enough power for playback, but I'll have the same problem: no binarys for ARM processors of MakeMKV.

Would be great if makemkv would be available also on those platforms.

Linux ARM port is planned and should be coming in the near future.

That's all good and well and the functionality to use a link to libmmbd instead of libaacs is absolutely fabulous. However, surely it would be technically trivial to output the VUK of a BluRay disc once it has been successfully decrypted. So I could backup the VUK, as libaacs does in the ~/.cache/aacs folder, and not have to worry that sooner or later I will insert a BR disc into my player that renders it useless by "infecting" it with an MKB version that cannot be decrypted anymore. If I had the VUKs of all my discs at this point, at least I could still play those.

I know exactly how do you feel, It happen to me few days ago with a new bluray that installed the 40 version into my player, since this day everything stop working.

Now found MakeMKV but only one of my drives works, the only refuses to.

Good luck.

So, what about getting the VUK out of MakeMKV? Mike? Is that something you deliberately choose not to do because you believe it would impact negatively on your business model?

It was deliberately chosen not to do for a variety of reasons. As for extracting the VUK from MakeMKV - all I can say that the amount of effort to extract the key from MakeMKV would be similar to extracting the key from PowerDVD. So if you really up to it, I recommend looking into PowerDVD (or any other software player for this matter) - it would be more beneficial in a long run.

Ok, thanks for answering my question. It's a pity though.
