Hi def Audio Format Support

Post by dennis » Mon Aug 10, 2009 10:10 am

Hi Guys,

How do I get Makemkv ( the worlds greatest ever software) support DTS MA or DD HD?

It always extracts just the core from BluRay?

Thanks

Dennis

Currently MakeMKV extracts only core DTS or AC3 audio. It extracts full-resolution LPCM audio if present on disc.

Thanks Mike

Will this feature be included in future releases?

likely, however it is tricky. No player would play compressed HD audio from MKV container in a near future, so the only practical way to store HD audio in MKV is to transcode it to LPCM. And raw uncompressed audio (even compressed to flac) takes significantly more space, so it is open question if one would really want to have significantly bigger file for marginally better audio.

Maybe converting the HD Audio to E-AC-3 with 3mbit/s or something would be a nice workaround? xbmc, vlc and mplayer can handle such files - and you get nearly (yes i know) the same as RAW/DD HD etc.

Most AVR can decode it (they know E-AC-3 under the name DD+)

My setup is xbmc -> hdmi -> denon 1910 and it works great using 7.1

Thats what i do with all my HD-DVDs - most of them already have e-ac-3 and some even 7.1 with up to 3mbit. E-AC-3 could handle up to 6mbit/s but i don't know if the players can.
