Program reads data faster than it can write to disk

Post by RealityRipple » Fri Dec 30, 2011 9:53 pm

I get this message a lot whenever I use an ISO as a source. Most drives read faster than they write; is this really a necessary message?

It is good to know in some situations, where the user might be able to do something about it.

Although I would rather MakeMKV just displayed the burst read and write rates in the "Information" section, rather than just the average Read rate that it displays now. Then the message would not be necessary, since you could plainly see the burst read and write speeds.

What the message means is that your optical drive is able to read data faster than MakeMKV can write it to your hard drive - though obviously, in the case of an ISO image, you're not really ripping from an optical disc…

Hence the message should probably only be displayed when ripping from an optical disc.

Well, normally you do want to know why the conversion speed suddenly dropped from 33x to 7x or so...
