My LG WH16NS40 was working fine for 9.5 years and a great number of discs, including recently copying a large batch of standard and 4k UHD blu-rays. Beginning a couple of days ago it would not mount blu-rays. It does mount and reliably read DVDs. During troubleshooting I did manage to get it to mount a blu-ray that it had previously recently read entirely, but this time the copy process errored out part-way through.
I have cleaned the laser lenses and the rest of the interior carefully, twice (91% rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs). With the cover off and power connected, I also see that both lasers do illuminate when I close the tray.
At this point, it does not seem to be a problem with the blue laser lens being dirty, or the blue laser being completely dead.
Any ideas what to try next?
I have seen questions about replacing lasers, but these questions are never answered. With blu-ray drives becoming more scarce, it would be nice to be figure out repair options.
