Wasn't sure where to put this post, can repost if directed to right place.
I picked up a BD-RE Buffalo Optical Drive BN14 and wanted to share my experience with it.
Basics: It is usb-a powered drive with an additional usb cord in the back for "power boost", which is needed when the drive shows a 'red' indicator light. It is fairly quiet, except when first spinning up BD, such as when MKV is generating the title list. It is a tray style drive, with the discs fitting into place tightly (good tight, not bad tight).
Usage: I am using it on an older mac (10.12), but it will supposedly work on 10.8. The drive works very well with MakeMKV and is able to extract from DVD and Blu-Ray without issue. I have never had to plug in the 'extra' power usb cable, but have also only used it for DVD and Blu-Ray, never BDXL. Comes with 2 year warranty.
