MakeMKV now shareware?

Post by tipsen » Tue Apr 04, 2023 9:15 am

Hi
I started MakeMKV today and was asked to update the software. Afterwards I was told that in order to decrypt/rip a blu-ray disc I needed to purchase the software or start the evaluation period of 30 days.
Is MakeMKV no longer free?
Cheers, Tommy

I've been using MakeMKV for over 10 years, and it's always been a commercial software package that allowed people to use it during the "beta test" period. That use was restricted to having to re-do the registration every 2 months, but fully-licensed users do not have to do that.

But I have to rip this disk NOW, and the beta key is expired!
MakeMKV checks the key for expiration by comparing your system DATE when the program STARTS. It does NOT check it after that. What you do with that information is up to you.

Like? I would imagine other shareware and alike. There's lots of freeware variants for all kinds of programs.
