New key for 1.9.4

#1 Post by swferguson » Mon Jul 13, 2015 10:26 pm

I recently updated from 1.9.3 to 1.9.4 on my MAC and I am now getting the following message :

MakeMKV v1.9.4 darwin(x86-release) started
Optical drive "BD-ROM ASUS SBC-06D2X-U D201d" opened in OS access mode.
Using direct disc access mode
Evaluation period has expired, shareware functionality unavailable.
Failed to open disc

any suggestions?

The latest key is always at this link: http://makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1053

The installation of 1.9.4 should have brought with it the new key. Although, it's been years since I had to worry about it.

Thanks Woodstock. I'm just confused though.
As stated on a main page all features of MakeMKV are free while program is in beta
What is the major difference on Beta and purchasing a license? It says beta has all the features given out for free. Stability issue is given already.
Always back it up. Image

A purchased license key doesn't expire.

If you are using the beta key, it needs to be replaced every 60 days or so (current one expires late this month). Also, if you are using Bluray features, those work for 30 days at a time with the beta key.

While in beta, it's primarily a convenience thing. No need to change the computer date if you forgot to pull the latest update, or the beta key wasn't updated in time for the last expiration. You just use the program.
