v2.0 with HEVC/x265?

#1 Post by dark4181 » Mon May 25, 2015 10:05 pm

Now that HEVC/h.265 spec has been finalized, I presume that future versions of MakeMKV will give us the option to chose the preferred format. Is there any roadmap that could be viewed as far as features? Or is all of the development effort being spent cracking encryption?

Since MakeMKV simply copies the video track into the MKV file, with no conversion done, there isn't a need for a "2.0" that "does" h.265.

If you're meaning coverting the video to h.265, that is not part of what MakeMKV does, so I doubt Mike will attempt to encroach on the territory of tools like ffmpeg and handbrake.

and Hybrid, Staxrip, XMedia Recode, Ripbot264... Agreed, there's plenty of tools out there, so Mike can focus on other things.
