1.8.8 says its too old

1.8.8 says its too old

The popup says to download the newest version but as far as I can tell the is the newest version. I just want to try the free trial first but I cant unless I enter a key. what am I doing wrong?

In addition to ndjamena's reply, each time a new version of MakeMKV is released, you will see a message with a clickable link on start-up of older versions like this:
The new version X.X.X is available for download at http://www.makemkv.com/download
Well, you will if you have not disabled "Allow contacting web server for updates" in the Tools->General menu.
